Good to know
What to expect
The first half hour is gentle. Ambient, easy, something to talk over. Then the tempo creeps up and by the back end of the night you've got a room singing along to pop, R&B, jazz, neo soul, soft rock and a run of Aussie classics. That shift is the whole idea, and it's why the duo lands with a mixed-age crowd rather than just the under thirties. Guitarists can change depending on who's free, so the line-up you see isn't always the line-up you get, but the repertoire stays the same.
On the day
They turn up with everything: two PA speakers, mics, guitar and a few filler instruments. What they need from you is power, and somewhere to sit. Armless chairs or stools, because you can't play guitar properly wedged into an armchair. If the booking runs three hours or longer, a bit of food and a drink each goes down well.
Set List
Big swathes of the songbook are the ones people already know every word to: Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers, Brown Eyed Girl and Bright Side of the Road from Van Morrison, Dreams and Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac, Killing Me Softly, No Scrubs by TLC. There's a soul and jazz streak running through it too, with Etta James, Amy Winehouse, Macy Gray and Joss Stone all getting a look in. Aussie material sits alongside the imports: April Sun in Cuba by Dragon, Better Be Home Soon and Don't Dream It's Over from Crowded House, Sunsets by Powderfinger, Buses and Trains by Bachelor Girl. And you can send through requests before the day.
Performance options
Afterglow Acoustic work to set lengths, and you pick the one that matches your run sheet: 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours or 5 hours. That covers everything from a short ceremony and drinks slot through to a full evening of live music. If you're likely to book them more than once, say so when you enquire, because regular bookings are treated differently from one offs.
