The act
Swing from the era when it ruled the dance floor. AJ Hix and His Rhythm Six work through the songbooks of Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra and Count Basie, with a few modern swing-influenced tracks mixed in. Sofi Kerr fronts the six-piece with smoky, soulful vocals over a rhythm section and horns, and the band performs in vintage 1930s and 40s attire so the whole thing looks the part too. Sets run around 45 to 60 minutes, balancing upbeat swing with slower tunes for dancing or background ambience. For smaller Perth events the group can shrink down to a four-piece instrumental line-up.

Good to know
What to expect
Six musicians, live, no backing tracks: vocals, rhythm section and horns working through high-energy swing, smoother jazz numbers and slow dances. They dress the part in vintage 1930s and 40s style, which does a lot of the atmosphere work before a note is played. Sets run about 45 to 60 minutes each and mix upbeat swing with sultrier, slower material, so it works for a dance floor or as background. Swing dances, themed parties, cocktail receptions and corporate galas all suit. The band interacts naturally with a crowd rather than performing at it.
On the day
A small to medium PA is needed to carry the full band and vocals, and the right size depends on your venue. Send through the details of your event and the band will work out what matches. Undercover is preferable for outdoor bookings, though they can play uncovered as long as there's a plan for rain or serious heat.

Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra. Count Basie and Benny Goodman for the big band end, Charlie Christian on guitar, plus Peggy Lee, Tony Bennett and Ray Charles. Diana Krall covers the modern side.
