Between them, the two musicians in August West have played more than 500 gigs, and it shows in the small things: arriving up to an hour and a half early to soundcheck, carrying a battery powered rig for ceremony spots with no power, bringing their own lighting. The Brisbane duo's songbook runs from the 50s to now, Folsom Prison Blues and Fly Me to the Moon through to Flowers and Budapest, downbeat or upbeat as the moment asks. For weddings they'll cover the ceremony, canapés and reception, and they'll learn your aisle or first dance song if they don't already know it. Venues, parties and corporate events sit just as easily in their week.

Good to know
What to expect
Two experienced musicians who are warm and easy to deal with, setting the tone for your event or your venue without taking it over. The repertoire is diverse enough to suit a mixed crowd across a wide age range. Downbeat, upbeat, or a shift from one to the other as the night goes, whichever you're after. All the musical gear and the lighting is theirs. And they arrive 45 minutes to an hour and a half before they're due to play, depending on the occasion, so the soundcheck is done well before anyone needs to hear it.
On the day
All the gear and lighting comes with them. The main setup needs power, so having that available makes life easier. They also carry a battery powered rig for when there's no power at all, or when you need two separate setups, say a ceremony in one spot and canapes in another.
Set List
Songs from the 50s through to now, picked so there's something for most people in the room. Fly Me to the Moon, Can't Help Falling in Love, Folsom Prison Blues, Brown Eyed Girl and Jolene cover the older end. Then Dreams, Don't Look Back in Anger, Dancing in the Dark, Dancing Queen, Isn't She Lovely, Rich Girl and Take It Easy. Newer material comes through Flowers, Watermelon Sugar, Budapest, Perfect, Riptide, All of Me, Speechless and Loving Is Easy. Australian songs are in the mix with My Happiness, Opportunity, To Her Door and Scar. Plus Banana Pancakes, Little Lion Man, Valerie, Crazy, Kiss Me, Sunday Morning and Shut Up and Dance.
Performance options
For weddings, the ceremony booking covers pre-ceremony music as guests arrive, your aisle walk song, the signing songs, the exit song and a few more as the ceremony winds up. They'll learn your special songs for those moments if they don't know them already. The next step up adds live music through canapes and the cocktail hour. The full booking adds the reception on top: dinner music, their PA available for your speeches, your first dance song played live, and music for the dance floor for the rest of the night, with a DJ option if that suits you better. Birthdays, corporate events and similar functions can be covered for any length up to five hours.
