More than 200 songs deep, Brothers In Groove work Sunshine Coast stages as a four or five piece: male lead vocal, guitar, bass and drums, with a female singer joining in the bigger lineup. The material runs from the late 70s through the 90s into current favourites, so a night can slide from Creedence and The Commitments to Billy Joel, Cold Chisel, INXS, Queen and Stevie Wonder without missing a step. They read the audience and shape the set to the room. Allow them a 3 by 4 metre space and about 90 minutes to set up, and they're self-sufficient from there. All members carry public liability insurance, and the standard of musicianship is the point: the band was formed by audition.

Solid is the word this band uses about itself, and on South East Queensland stages that's the job: late seventies, eighties and nineties material plus a handful of current songs, all of it chosen because people know the words. You'll hear singing along early and dancing not long after. It's not a listening gig. It's a band playing to fill a floor and keep it full.
Give them about an hour and a half before the first song. That's load-in, setup and checking everything actually works, which is why they'd rather arrive early than rush it. Space needed is a minimum of three metres by four, enough for four or five musicians and all the gear. A table off to the side for the breaks helps, and given they're often on site five or six hours from load-in to pack down, a meal and something to drink goes down well.
