The act
Thirty years of live performance, in Britain and then here, doing stand-up and musical comedy in the same show. Dean Courtney won the Comedy Lounge Gong Show, and the act moves between sharp stand-up, storytelling, one-liners, puns and songs. He's a busy MC as well, hosting awards nights, festivals, conferences, gala dinners and corporate functions, and he reads each room before shaping the set to it. He's played to armed forces audiences and sports teams, which are two crowds that will tell you quickly if you aren't funny. Based in Perth.

What to expect
Thirty years on stage in Australia and overseas, and it shows in the pacing. Dean opens, builds and keeps building, so the laughs sit close together instead of arriving in bursts. The material is current and properly structured: one liners, puns, long stories, and musical comedy played rather than talked about. A big screen slideshow runs behind him, feeding punchlines and pictures into the storytelling, which pulls an audience closer than a bare microphone does. He also takes the room in hand as host, keeping a gala dinner, awards night or conference moving without dropping the energy, and pitching the humour to whoever is actually sitting in front of him.
