The drum kit lights up. It's an authentic 1970s piece and Disco Disciples reckon it's the only one in that colour design in the country, which tells you how far they take the era. Costumes are period correct too, with changes during the intervals. The songs are the number ones: Michael Jackson, the Bee Gees, KC and the Sunshine Band, Stevie Wonder, Earth Wind & Fire, Donna Summer, Diana Ross, Gloria Gaynor, John Paul Young, Chic, the Commodores. They can bring PA and a bit of lighting for a room of around 500, and for anything bigger you'll want a hired rig and an operator. The crowd tends to run wide, from teenagers who found the records at home to people who danced to them the first time.

What to expect

Costumes are authentic to the era and they change them during the intervals. What they play is the number ones, nothing obscure. And the crowd tends to be wider than you'd expect, because kids who dug through their parents' records know these songs as well as the people who danced to them the first time round. The players come from chart topping bands, and their singer Hellen holds a Friday night residency in Surfers Paradise.
On the day
For a room holding roughly 500, they'll bring the PA and a small lighting rig themselves. Anything bigger than that and you'll want a larger system hired in with an operator to run it, sound and lights both. Worth sorting early with your venue, because the answer depends entirely on the room.
