The act
Singer, DJ, or both at once, and Emma Lancaster has spent 20 years and thousands of gigs working out which one a room actually needs. Smooth vocals over dinner, a lounge set while people arrive, then live singing across DJ beats once the floor opens up. She takes MC work too, and performs with The Hymack Girls and Luminosity as well as directing GC Karaoke, so the lineup can scale to the event. For smaller Gold Coast rooms of up to 100 she brings her own gear: Pioneer decks, Yamaha speakers, a party light bar, booth lighting and a radio mic for speeches. Bigger venues need a supplied PA. Good to know
On the day
For a restaurant, a bar or a smaller function room holding up to about 100 people, Emma Lancaster turns up with the sound already covered. That means a DJ booth with Pioneer decks, Yamaha speakers, a party light bar, lighting on the booth itself and a radio mic so the speeches don't get lost. Bigger rooms are a different job. Once the numbers or the space grow past that, the venue side needs to have a PA in place, and it's worth raising early so it doesn't become a last-minute scramble.
Performance options
There are a few shapes here, and they suit different nights. Emma Lancaster on her own covers birthdays, weddings and smaller functions: smooth vocals through dinner, a lounge feel while people arrive, then live singing over DJ beats once the floor fills. Saxophone or percussion can join her. The Hymack Girls is the duo version, built for corporate work, with fully mixed DJ and vocal sets, costumes and choreography, and it extends to a trio, a four piece or a five piece by adding sax, percussion and guitar. Luminosity is the band side, running from a duo up to a big band with drums, guitar, keys and a horn section. Tell the booking team the room and the guest count and they'll work out which one fits.
