The act
Jazz standards, bossa nova and a scattering of popular songs given a jazz treatment. That's the shape of a Gigi Knight set in Perth. Having lived in Brazil, Gigi sings some of the bossa material in Brazilian Portuguese as well as English, and the Brazilian influences run deep: Joao and Astrud Gilberto, Jobim, Luiz Bonfa, Sergio Mendes, plus the film Black Orpheus. The jazz side leans on Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and Peggy Lee, with the odd contemporary song from Sting, Leonard Cohen or Amy Winehouse working its way in. Available solo with professional backing tracks, as a duo with guitar or keys, a trio with bass or sax, or a four or five piece band. Suits cafes, bars and restaurants as much as weddings and corporate events.
