Graham Moes

The act

Graham Moes has been a full-time musician since 2014, playing corporate rooms, venues and festivals. In 2016 he took home three awards at the Brisbane City Council QUBE Effect, including Best Solo Performance, Best Professional Live Performance and Best Emerging Talent. He fronts soul and ska outfit Fat Picnic, which has taken him to Splendour in the Grass, Woodford, Island Vibe and Caloundra Music Festival. Solo, he works stripped back on guitar and vocals or builds full grooves with looping. The sound sits in R&B, reggae, funk and blues with a pop-rock edge, so expect Rolling In The Deep, I Need A Dollar, No Diggity, Redbone and Feel Good Inc. He can also scale up to a duo, trio or band with sax, trumpet or keys. If he's bringing full production, allow 90 minutes to set up, and a marquee if it's open air.

Good to know

What to expect

Graham listens before he plays, and the setlist moves with the room. Solo he'll either strip it right back to guitar and voice, or build the whole thing live with a looper until it sounds like a band standing behind him. The influences are R&B, reggae, funk and blues with a pop edge on top, so think Rolling In The Deep, No Diggity, Redbone. He's done years of original material and festivals, and that's what makes the covers sound like his rather than a photocopy.

On the day

If he's bringing the full production, PA and audio included, allow at least an hour and a half to set up. Open air bookings need a rain plan. A marquee, or a covered alternative he can move to, because the gear can't sit out in it. Worth deciding that before the day rather than during.

Performance options

Solo is the one-man-band looping show and covers most of the ground on its own. The duo adds a female vocalist over the top of it. Step up to a trio and you get vocals and guitar with bass and drums behind. From there the band can grow again with saxophone, trumpet or keys, in whatever combination suits the night. Send through the details of your event and he'll quote the line-up that fits.
