Greg Byrne

The act

One booking, many shapes. Greg Byrne works Sydney as a solo acoustic act, as a DJ, and everything up to a ten-piece band, which means a wedding can start with acoustic guitar at the ceremony and finish with a full live set or a DJ and sax on the dance floor. Pub and club nights run as three 45-minute sets of classic singalongs and modern hits. He also fronts Origins of Oz Rock, a show built around Australia's best known rock songs. All the audio and lighting comes with him, including a wireless mic for speeches, and it's set up and run by people who do this for a living. Public liability insurance is in place.

Good to know

What to expect

Nothing here is fixed in advance. A pub or club night leans on the songs a room already knows, mixed with current stuff, and it builds as the crowd thickens rather than starting at full volume. A wedding is a different job: acoustic guitar through the ceremony and canapes, then live band or DJ once dinner clears and people want to dance. Greg watches the room and moves with it, which is really the only skill that matters across that many formats.

On the day

Everything on the audio and lighting side comes with the booking. That's a PA sized for your venue, performance lighting, and a wireless microphone you can use for speeches and announcements. It's set up and run on the night by people who do this for a living, so nobody from your side is chasing a cable while guests are arriving.

Performance options

Pubs and clubs get three 45-minute sets, solo or duo, mixing acoustic favourites with newer hits and songs the room will sing. Weddings scale up in stages. Solo acoustic through the day into a DJ set for the night is the simplest version. Swap that DJ for a live trio if you'd rather keep it played. Add live saxophone over the DJ, or sax plus a male or female vocalist for something bigger again. At the top end the acoustic start hands over to a full band, anywhere from three players to ten.
