Groovology started in Sydney and moved north in 2017 when some of the members relocated to the Sunshine Coast. Mia sings out front, with Harry on guitar, Dewa on bass and Darren on drums. The repertoire sits in the 70s, 80s and 90s with some 00s and newer songs mixed through: Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Pat Benatar, Divinyls, Roxette, Michael Jackson, CCR, Wilson Pickett. They'll play easy listening early and turn it into a dance floor later. Available as a four or five piece. They need about three by four metres and an hour and a half to set up properly. All members carry public liability insurance.

The strength of this band is how much ground the four of them cover. Seventies, eighties and nineties songs sit at the centre, with 00s and newer material worked through. Every member has been doing this long enough to spot which way a room is leaning. So an early evening can stay easy and conversational, and the same band can turn it into a dance floor an hour later without it feeling like a different act walked on.
Roughly three metres by four for the band, and they'll arrive about an hour and a half before the start. That time isn't padding. It gets everything plugged in, tested and properly balanced so the first song sounds like the last one.
Four piece is a female vocalist with guitar, bass and drums. The five piece adds a male vocalist who also plays rhythm guitar, alongside the female vocalist, a lead guitarist and drums. Which one suits comes down to the size of your room and how much sound you want in it.
