Joseph Calderazzo started Jazz Nouveau in 2003 with a simple idea: take songs people already know and play them with the poise of something much older. The result has a definite Sydney accent, cosmopolitan but with a vintage edge that catches the ear. The line-up shifts, though there's a regular core. Charmaine Ford on piano, Dave Goodman on drums, Gary Holgate on double bass, Evelyn Duprai on vocals, and Joseph on guitar. Duprai can take a song from a whisper to a shout, and the band moves with her.
