The act
Amayah sings jazz, blues and soul with an ear for the emotional weight of a song. Summertime, Cry Me a River, Misty, My Funny Valentine. Ain't No Sunshine, At Last, I Put a Spell on You. La Vie en Rose and Ne Me Quitte Pas in French, then Back to Black, Make You Feel My Love and Valerie from the contemporary end. She usually works solo with backing tracks, and brings her live band Velvet Groove when the booking suits. The performance shifts to fit: quiet background for a dinner or cocktail hour, a proper feature set for a themed night, or something more interactive with storytelling between songs. Solo needs about 2 by 2 metres, the band closer to 4 by 3. Melbourne based, public liability insurance held, all electrical gear tagged and tested.

Good to know
What to expect
Jazz, blues and soul sung with attention to what a song is actually about, which is a different thing from singing it well. Amayah works solo with high quality backing tracks, or brings her band Velvet Groove when the booking calls for it. Three shapes are possible: background music sitting under dinner or a cocktail hour, a feature set for a smaller or themed night, or something more interactive with storytelling threaded between the songs. She turns up prepared and warm rather than grand, and she pays attention to the timing of your event, which matters more than any single song choice.
On the day
Two metres square is enough for the solo setup, and about 4 by 3 metres if the band comes. One standard power outlet nearby covers it. She can bring speakers, mixer and cables, or plug into your in-house PA if you've got one worth using. Parking near the door helps with unloading. Outdoors, a shaded or covered spot is needed to keep sun and rain off the gear and the players. Ambient light is fine for most of it, though an evening booking is better with power for a small spotlight.
Performance options
There is no fixed menu here. Amayah shapes each booking to the night in front of her, so what you get is agreed with you beforehand rather than chosen off a list. Tell her the room, the hours and the mood you are after when you enquire, and the performance is built to match.
