The set leans contemporary pop, with John Mayer, Eric Clapton, Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5 and Stevie Wonder in the mix. Wedding sets take in Can't Help Falling in Love, Perfect, Tennessee Whiskey and Just the Way You Are, and the singalong list runs to 500 Miles and Chicken Fried. He reads the room, knowing when to sit back and when to lift it. Spotify covers the 15 minute break each hour, so the music never stops dead. Khai reads a room properly. He knows when to sit back and let the music be atmosphere, and when to lift the whole thing, which is most of the skill in solo work. His sound is rhythmic guitar under smooth vocals with genuine power behind them, and he's played enough weddings, corporate nights and parties to be unflappable. The music doesn't stop dead either. He takes a 15 minute break each hour and runs recorded music through it, so there's never that awkward gap where the room goes quiet and everyone starts looking around.
On the day
Everything comes with him, gear and lighting both. What he needs from you is small: a flat dry patch about two metres by two metres and a power point within reach. Give him access to that spot half an hour before the first song and he'll be set up and ready without anyone noticing him doing it.
