Liam Blunts Funky Rhythm Train started in 2001 as a four-piece funky blues band in north east Victoria and grew into a covers outfit playing everything from the sixties to now. The line-up is five: Meagan on lead vocals, Tim on drums and vocals, Michael on bass, keys and vocals, and Ian and Peter on guitars. Add the four-piece horn section, known as The Hornies, and it becomes a nine-piece with a much bigger sound for a big room. Everything you hear is played live. No backing tracks, no sequences. The list runs through R&B, funk, soul, rock, Top 40, pop, jazz and Latin, from Dragon's "April Sun In Cuba" and Jet to Billie Eilish and Paramore. They'll learn a song for a bridal dance at no extra charge, and they travel: Albury, Shepparton, Bright, Echuca, Gippsland and further.

Good to know
What to expect
Everything you hear is played on the night. No backing tracks, no sequences, which in covers-band territory is worth saying out loud. Nine musicians can turn a room in a way five can't, and the horn section is where the funk and soul material really opens up. Soul and rock, funk, chart pop, some jazz, some Latin, plus the R&B end of things. Decades of playing between them and a core line-up that's been together more than ten years, so nobody's reading charts. They also arrange some of the well known ones their own way.
On the day
One standard 10 amp power point, ideally on its own circuit away from other equipment. If you're somewhere without mains, you'll need a generator big enough to carry the band. Sound, lights, travel and insurance are theirs, and for large public events they bring their own engineer. They've got a 6m x 3m gazebo for shelter, weather permitting. There's also a semi unplugged option with a battery powered PA speaker, which is what you'd use for a ceremony held away from the reception.
Performance options
Two line-ups. The five piece is female lead vocals, two guitars, bass doubling on keyboards and vocals, and drums, and it covers most of what you'd want from a night's dancing. The nine piece adds four horns, trumpet, alto and tenor sax and trombone, for a much bigger sound and a wider stretch of funk, soul and Latin. For weddings they'll play welcome and lounge music, dinner sets and dance sets, often five sets across the day. And they'll learn a song for your bridal dance at no extra charge, assuming they can do it justice.
