The act
Trained as a mezzo soprano, though the classical grounding is only part of what Lisa Genovese does. She's spent years singing jazz, musical theatre and contemporary music, and she sings Italian repertoire for Italian themed events. Weddings from ceremony to reception, funerals, festivals, corporate functions, and she's sung on television advertisements too. Catholic ceremonies she knows inside out, though she sings in other churches as well. She performs with organ, piano, guitar, strings or piano accordion, scaling from a duo to a full band. Before your event she'll speak to the venue, and often visits it. Drummoyne based. If there's a song you want that she doesn't already have, she'll go and source the music.

Good to know
What to expect
Before anything else, Lisa Genovese talks it through with you. Which songs, which musicians, what the room should feel like at each point of the day. She can send you a list to choose from, and if the song you want isn't on it, she'll go and find the music for it. That's the part people don't expect. Weddings, funerals, corporate functions and festivals all get the same conversation first, because the right song in the wrong moment still lands badly.
On the day
She'll work with the venue's PA if there's a decent one, or bring her own system and microphone if there isn't. Either way she arrives at least an hour before you need her, so the setup is finished and quiet well before guests are in the room. She also contacts the venue ahead of the day, and often goes and looks at it in person, which tends to sort out the small problems before they're problems.
Performance options
For weddings she'll sing the ceremony solo or with musicians behind her, cover canapes with a piano accordionist or another player, then take a singing spot at the reception or handle music for the whole event. Corporate bookings work the same way: canapes entertainment, or a duo, trio or band. Festivals get a musical spot with whichever ensemble suits the stage. And for funerals she sings the ceremony with the accompaniment you choose, and can stay on for music during the wake.
