Twenty-five years of gigs will do something to a guitarist. Mark Fox has spent that long playing pubs, bars, restaurants, weddings and corporate rooms around the country as a solo acoustic act, and along the way he stopped playing other people's arrangements. Pop, rock and blues from the sixties to now, all rearranged his own way. You'll recognise the song, but it might take you a bar or two, and then you'll wonder if that isn't how it was meant to go. His set list runs from Folsom Prison Blues and Cheap Wine to Down Under, Every Breath You Take and Have You Ever Seen the Rain. He can go quiet and instrumental for background, or push it into Oz rock and dance tunes when the room wants moving. He needs about three metres by one and a half, and can bring his own power if there isn't any.

The word people reach for after a Mark Fox set is usually unexpected. He plays songs you already know, but arranged his own way, so there's often a beat or two where you're working out what you're listening to. Then it clicks. And the odd part is that it never sounds wrong. Plenty of people walk away half convinced that's how the song should have gone in the first place. Asked to explain it, he doesn't try.
