Melbourne DJ Collective

The act

The job of a DJ at a function is reading a room and staying half a step ahead of it. Melbourne DJ Collective books players who do that across wedding ceremonies and receptions, club nights and private parties. The music stretches wherever you need it: current Top 40, 90s classics, 80s, 70s, 60s, back to the 40s and 50s, techno and electronic if that's the night. Karaoke and mobile setups are covered too, and there's a DJ and sax format if you want a live element over the top. DJs bring their own equipment and set up ahead of time. Access to power is the one non-negotiable. Say what you want played and what you never want to hear, and the set gets built around that.

Good to know

What to expect

The dance floor is the whole measure of a DJ, and that's what these ones are picked on. A hundred people or a room of twenty, the aim doesn't change. Artists come prepared, set up with care ahead of time rather than at the last minute, and bring their own gear so you're not chasing equipment hire. If you're not certain what kind of DJ suits your night, say what the event is and they'll point you at someone rather than leaving you to guess.

On the day

One thing is fixed: there has to be power available. Beyond that it depends who you book, since a DJ working a wedding ceremony and one running a club night take up different amounts of room and draw different amounts of power. Once the artist is chosen, their team will tell you exactly what that person needs from your venue.

Performance options

Weddings and events across the board, and the brief can be as light or as heavy as you like. Background music while people arrive and eat, MC duties through the formalities, or straight dance floor work once the night opens up. Karaoke is available, so are mobile setups, and a saxophonist can play live over the top of the DJ set if you want something more than recorded music.
