Ned plays guitar

The act

Delicate fingerpicking for a ceremony, or something with a lot more push for the party afterwards. Ned is a recent graduate of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, and his real depth is in the folk traditions of Ireland and the UK plus early American blues, drawing on Martin Simpson, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, John Fahey, Elizabeth Cotten, Tony McManus and Trace Bundy, alongside his own arrangements. He's comfortable across other genres too, including pop, rock, jazz, blues and reggae. The set gets built with you, or handed over entirely if you'd rather not think about it. Gear is deliberately minimal: an acoustic guitar, maybe an amp, occasionally a looper. Based in Bulleen, Melbourne.

Good to know

What to expect

Ned plays guitar came out of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music not long ago, and he holds himself to that standard when he plays. His view of the job is straightforward: the music should serve whatever atmosphere you're building, so the pieces get chosen with that in mind rather than played off a fixed list. Where he goes deepest is the folk traditions of Ireland and the United Kingdom, and the early American blues. But he's at home in other genres too, so don't rule him out if that's not the sound you had in mind.

On the day

Simplicity is the aim here. An acoustic guitar, and usually an amp depending on how big the room is. Now and then a looper goes in if the set calls for it, but that's about the extent of it. So there's very little for your venue to accommodate, which makes Ned plays guitar an easy act to slot into a tight corner or a ceremony space.
