The act
Blues and soul got into Oscar LaDell early. A second generation musician, raised on almost nothing but those two genres in a small seaside town at the southern end of Aotearoa New Zealand, and it shows in every set he plays. He's based in Naarm now, writing songs that swing between the personal and the political, drawing on music made as resistance. Live, he mixes his own material with the standards you'd hope for: Let's Stay Together, The Thrill Is Gone, Try a Little Tenderness, Sittin' On The Dock of the Bay, Bring It On Home to Me, Tennessee Whiskey. It suits bars, cafes, outdoor events and festival stages. Cruisier or rowdier is your call. Solo he needs a chair and power; with the band, room for three or four and a PA, which he can bring.

Good to know
What to expect
Blues and soul covers with Oscar's own songs threaded through them. The covers are the ones you'd want: Let's Stay Together, The Thrill Is Gone, Try a Little Tenderness, Sittin' On The Dock of the Bay, Bring It On Home to Me, Tennessee Whiskey. His originals swing between the personal and the political. And how loud it gets is your call, since he'll play a cruisier set for a cafe or a dinner service, or push it harder when you want people on their feet. Bars, outdoor events and festival stages all suit it.
On the day
Solo, he needs a chair and a power supply and that's about it. For the band shows, room for three or four musicians plus power to reach them. Audio is the one thing to sort out ahead of time: a PA and a desk are needed, either from the venue or supplied by Oscar as an add-on, so say which way you'd like it when you enquire.
