The act
Get the formalities done, feed everyone, then turn it up. That's the running order this Wollongong DJ prefers, with upbeat background music while guests arrive and the real dance floor work saved for after the speeches. Years behind the decks at corporate events, weddings, five star hotels, bars and nightclubs have made for an all rounder: commercial dance, R&B, 80s funk, and party tunes from the 80s, 90s, 2000s and the current Top 40. Requests are taken all night. The sound and lighting rig is the modern gear, and the extras run to theme nights, foam and snow parties, glow parties, retro nights, dry ice, spark machines, confetti, CO2 and glow furniture hire. Allow one to two hours to set up before doors.

Good to know
What to expect
The order of the night is thought about, not just the songs. Upbeat background music while people arrive and find their table, formalities and the meal cleared out of the way, then the volume comes up and the dance floor opens. It's a better run sheet than fighting the speeches with a dance track. Requests are taken all night, and the mix pulls from commercial dance, R&B, 80s funk and party material spanning the 80s, 90s, 2000s and the current Top 40.
On the day
One to two hours of setup time before the doors open to your guests. That covers the sound rig and the lighting, both of which take longer than a laptop on a table. Worth checking your venue will actually let people in that early, since some function rooms won't, and it's easier to sort out now than on the afternoon.
Performance options
Beyond the DJ set there's a whole production side. Theme nights are the popular one: foam parties, snow parties, glow parties, or a retro night with the music and the look matched to the era. Special effects can go on top, including dry ice, spark machines, confetti and CO2. Glow furniture is available too, which changes how a room reads once the lights drop. Tell them the venue and the vibe you're after and the effects get picked to suit it.
