Sax Man Paul

The act

Love ballads through to smooth grooves is how Sax Man Paul describes the range, and the song list backs it up: Bill Withers, Miles Davis, Sting, Elton John, Adele, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Tones and I. Pop, soul, funk, reggae and classics, played either as atmospheric background or with enough groove to shift the mood of a room. Paul is a seasoned player who works solo with a quality PA, features over a booked DJ, or expands to a duo, trio or full band. MC duties can be added. He'll talk through the run sheet with you beforehand, which is usually where the difference gets made. Based at Seaford on the Mornington Peninsula.

Good to know

What to expect

Paul has been playing long enough to know when a room wants saxophone in the background and when it wants the volume up. Love ballads through to smooth grooves is his own description, with pop, soul, funk, reggae and classics inside that. He'll sit underneath the conversation at a corporate dinner or drive a private party along, and he's worked enough weddings and functions to understand where music has to fit around speeches and formalities. Before the day he'll talk through what you're trying to achieve, which is usually where the difference gets made.

On the day

A performance area of roughly three metres by three, out of the weather, with a backup spot if the sky looks doubtful. Power is preferred for amplification, though a battery powered system is an option where there's no outlet. He also asks for sensible access and somewhere to park so the gear comes in without a scramble. For anything running past two hours, a basic meal or some finger food and a drink is the usual courtesy. Regional and interstate bookings just need a chat about travel arrangements first.
