Shiner Wright plays out of Melbourne's Mornington Peninsula, moving through acoustic easy listening, folk, pop, country and everything from the 60s and 70s to now. The classics turn up every time he plays: Sweet Caroline, Country Roads, American Pie, Flame Trees, Brown Eyed Girl. He's worked corporate functions, private events, pubs, clubs, bistros, restaurants and RSLs, on national and local circuits, and he tailors the PA to the room instead of hauling in the same rig everywhere. What to expect
Shiner plays 50 minute sets with 10 minute breaks, and there's background music running through the gaps so the room doesn't go flat. The songs are classic anthems and popular tracks pulled from the 50s through to now, rock and roll to country, ballads to instrumentals, and people tend to end up singing along whether they planned to or not. He starts on time and finishes on time. If you need a microphone for speeches or announcements, ask and he'll have one ready.
On the day
Access to the venue an hour before the start is what he asks for, so setup and sound check are done properly instead of hurriedly. He needs at least one 240 volt power point, though two is better, and a space of roughly three metres wide by two deep. The PA gets picked to match the room: a compact column system for up to thirty people indoors, dual stand mounted speakers for forty to sixty, and subs added on for anything larger.
