Slingo builds his sound live, in front of you, with a loop pedal and no backing tracks. Acoustic guitar is the base, then trumpet, bass, beats and vocal harmonies stack on top until it sounds like a much bigger act. Fifteen years of it on the Gold Coast. A wireless system lets him walk into the crowd mid song. Sets usually run three to five hours, and he will pitch the volume and the song choice to the actual room: easy listening at dinner, foot stomping pub classics when the floor fills. Reggae, acoustic and pop with other things folded in. Basic DJ sets are available too, and there is a ukulele for beach ceremonies. He carries a battery powered amp for parks and sand. Organised, punctual and easy to deal with, which is half the job.

What to expect
Fifteen years in, Slingo is organised and punctual, and on the day of an event those two words are worth more than most things on a musician's profile. Sets usually run three to five hours. He pitches the room himself: easy listening at a considerate volume when you want conversation and intimate covers, then foot stomping pub classics once people are ready to sing and dance. Reggae, acoustic and pop sit at the centre, with other styles folded in depending on the event. He's played Airlie Beach Music Festival, Surfers Paradise Festival, Miami Marketta and a long list of Gold Coast venues, and he plays trumpet on other artists' recordings between his own shows.
On the day
A small space of around two metres by four, and a power point. Not much to organise. And if you're planning something on the beach or in a park where there's no power within a hundred metres, he carries a small battery powered amplifier for exactly that, so an outdoor spot doesn't rule the booking out.
