The act
Traditional jazz, early blues and ragtime, played by musicians who drove in from the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Toowoomba to do it. Slips and the Flamin' Whippersnappers bring a New Orleans flavour to South East Queensland, and the instrument list tells you they mean it: resonator guitar, trumpet, saxophone and clarinet, keys, upright bass and washboard. Books as a five or six piece for casual and corporate events, from three 45 minute sets with background music covering the breaks. They can supply their own sound for up to 200 people. Space for six players and 240 volt power is the requirement, plus cover from the weather outdoors. Public liability insurance is their own.

Good to know
What to expect
New Orleans, transplanted to South East Queensland. Resonator guitar and vocals, trumpet, saxophone and clarinet, keys, upright bass and a washboard, which is the instrument that tells you these players are serious about the traditional end of jazz rather than borrowing the aesthetic. It works for a casual event and it works for a corporate one, and the mood it puts in a room is closer to a hoot than a hush.
On the day
Room for up to six performers and their instruments, plus access to 240 volt power. If your site hasn't got power where they'll be playing, offsite power can be sorted, though that needs arranging in advance rather than on the morning. Outdoors, they need protection from the weather over the playing area. Wooden instruments and rain have never got along.
Performance options
You can book them as a five or a six piece. A standard night starts at three sets of 45 minutes, with background music filling the gaps while the band takes its breaks, so the room keeps its atmosphere between sets. They can also supply their own sound system covering an audience of up to 200, which means a venue without a PA is no obstacle.
