Eleven musicians is a lot of band. SOUL'D built theirs around a horn section of three to five players, male and female vocalists, and a rhythm section made for dancing. The material comes off the Atlantic, Stax, Motown and Savoy labels of the late 50s through the 70s: James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, The Supremes, Booker T and the MGs, plus selections from Joe Cocker, Chicago and The Commitments. They've been a fixture around Byron Bay for fourteen years, playing the Rails, the Beach Hotel and the Byron Bay Bluesfest in 2007 and 2009. Weddings, corporate functions and private parties round out the diary. Soul, funk, R&B, blues and swing, played loud enough to fill a floor.

Good to know
What to expect
The horns are what you hear first. SOUL'D work the great labels of the late fifties through the seventies: Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Sam Cooke, with The Supremes, The Temptations, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles at the Motown end. Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Sam and Dave, The Four Tops, Junior Walker and the All Stars, Jackie Wilson, Eddie Floyd, Booker T and the MGs, The Contours, The Mar-Keys and Earth Wind and Fire all get a look in. Then Joe Cocker, Chicago, Blood Sweat and Tears, plus a run at The Blues Brothers and The Commitments. Dance floor music, played by a band big enough to do it properly.
