Stewart Barton

The act

Mark Gable of the Choirboys put it this way: "Stewie has already made it, the world needs to find him as well." Stewart Barton grew up in Canberra determined to play guitar, taught himself first, then sharpened up through programs for emerging Indigenous artists in the ACT and a Keith Urban online course. Local talent shows came next, then an open mic night in Queanbeyan that opened doors. The influences are country and rock: Urban, INXS, Brooks & Dunn, Springsteen, Bryan Adams, Luke Combs. He plays his own songs alongside the classic party covers. Book him solo for something close and personal, or as a full band for a country rock show. He can supply sound and lighting, and he holds public liability cover.

Good to know

What to expect

A country rock show with genuine charisma driving it and the energy kept high from the first song. Stewart built the playing up through ACT-based development programs for emerging Indigenous artists, plus Keith Urban's thirty songs course, then tested it properly on stages: the Country Rocks Festival at Bungendore in 2021, the ACT Multicultural Festival in 2019, Country Rocks Under The Stars at Braidwood, the national anthem at the PBR opening in Queanbeyan, and an opening slot for Brad Cox. He has shared stages with Drew McAlister, Bill Chambers, Brewn and Tommy Emmanuel. The influences you will hear are Keith Urban, INXS, Brooks and Dunn, Bruce Springsteen, Bryan Adams and Luke Combs.

On the day

Sound and lighting production can come from Stewart, so the venue doesn't have to supply either. The other thing to settle early is which show you're after: the solo version or the full band. That decision changes the space and the gear, so raise it before the booking is locked rather than after.

Performance options

Two shapes. Solo is the close, quiet one, good for a room where people are near enough to hear him talk between songs. The full band takes it into country rock territory with the volume and the drive that comes with it. Same songs underneath, very different night.
