Pub rock, classic hits and the sort of songs a room will sing back at you. That Band! come out of South East Queensland with more than twenty years of individual live experience between them, and it shows in how they read a crowd and build a night. Book them as a duo, a trio or a four-piece, which means the same act stretches from a stripped-back acoustic set to a full electric show with drums. The set list runs through INXS, Cold Chisel, Paul Kelly, Dragon, Oasis, Pearl Jam, Queen, The Killers, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Creedence Clearwater Revival, among plenty of others. What to expect
Pub rock and classic hits, played by people who've been reading rooms for over twenty years between them. That Band! aim the night at singalongs, so expect the songs everyone in the room already knows, plus banter and some genuinely bad puns between them. They watch the floor and adjust. As an acoustic duo it stays conversational, as a three or four-piece with drums it turns into a proper electric show, and they'll shift the volume up or down depending on what the room is actually doing rather than what the run sheet says.
On the day
Two things. A power point they can reach, and roughly three metres by three of clear floor to set up in. That's it. PA and lighting are theirs, so the venue doesn't need a sound system of its own. Worth measuring the corner you have in mind before the day, because three by three sounds smaller on paper than it looks once a drum kit and speaker stands are in it.
Performance options
The same act comes in three sizes. A duo keeps it acoustic and easier on the room, a three-piece adds weight, and the four-piece is the full electric version with drums behind it. Which one suits depends on the space and how loud you want the back half of the night to get. Tell them the venue and the kind of crowd and they'll tell you which shape they'd pick.
