Six musicians playing 1970s funk and soul, dressed for it. Wide collars, platform shoes, flares, hats, sunglasses, the lot, and the horn section drives the whole thing. The set list is Brick House, Cold Sweat, Sex Machine, Superstition, Higher Ground, Cissy Strut, Chameleon, Long Train Running, Billie Jean and Groove Is in the Heart, played in three quarter hour sets. Their mash-up of Brick House and Seven Nation Army is worth waiting for. Getting your guests dressed up is encouraged, because half the fun of this act is a whole room committing to it rather than just the band.
On the day
This one is a venue-supplied setup. They need front of house PA sized to the number of patrons, five foldback monitors, microphones with stands and cables, a stage and stage lighting. Six players with horns is a lot of channels, so it suits a room that already has a proper system and someone who knows how to run it, rather than a backyard with an extension lead.
Performance options
Sets run three quarters of an hour each, and you choose how many the night needs. One is enough for a short slot at a function. Two or three fills an evening properly. Where a room comes with no sound system in place, the band can supply front of house PA and stage lighting as an added extra, which saves you sourcing a hire company. Anything outside the Sydney metro area is worth mentioning early so travel can be worked out before the date is held.
