Trio Failte

The act

Scottish fiddle and pipe tunes, rearranged by three players who came at the music from different directions. Margaret Schlink plays viola and fiddle, Fiona Davidson fiddle, and Krista Low cello, and their backgrounds in Scottish fiddle, classical and Baroque give the Celtic repertoire a shape you won't hear elsewhere. Sets run through jigs like Stan Chapman and Atop Fetlars, reels, polkas, a French Breton pairing, pipe marches such as MacDonald of the Isles March to Harlaw, and slow airs that open out into reels. Strathspeys sit somewhere between elegant and energetic depending on the tune. Three chairs is all they need. They prefer playing acoustically and can take condenser mics if the room is big.

Good to know

What to expect

Scottish and other Celtic fiddle music, old tunes and modern ones, arranged by the trio themselves rather than played from anyone else's version. The reels and jigs are lively, the slow airs go somewhere haunting, and the strathspeys can be elegant or full of drive depending on the tune.

On the day

Three chairs, and the trio are ready to go. Playing acoustically is what they would choose, which suits a ceremony, a smaller room or anywhere you want the instruments heard as they actually sound. If the space is large enough that the sound needs help reaching the back, condenser microphones can be used instead.
